LOVE TARGET BY HEIDI LOEB HEGERICH - VIRTUAL TOUR & REVIEW + GIVEAWAY

Love Target
by Heidi Loeb Hegerich

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB
Teenager Ingrid Liebschreiber is devastated when her parents move the family from their native Munich to Los Angeles in the late 1950s. Homesick, she accepts a neighbor's offer to get her a job as a showgirl in Las Vegas.
Intent on earning enough money to return to Germany, she must grow up quickly in the neon jungle - where she is pursued by high rollers and headliners, including a vacationing Elvis.
Life's twists and turns land Ingrid in New York in the Swinging 1960s - where she is romanced by Armand: a strong, quiet, handsome businessman in "construction." Most girls dream of Mr. Right, and Ingrid's hard-won independence is challenged when she falls in love.
Will she find true romance - a man who can love her as much as she loves him? Or is "happily ever after" just a crazy fairytale?
EXCERPT
“Rascal, you sit yourself right down there.” Elvis motioned at the bed.
He picked up a shiny guitar. It was honey yellow, and the face had a rust-red design below the sound hole, decorated with golden orbs and stems like dandelions.
“Oh, it is beautiful, Elvis!”
He held it up proudly. “This is my Gibson. Ain’t she sweet?”
He sat on a chair cradling the expensive guitar. He delicately plucked the top string with his thumb and gently strummed the other strings with his fingers.
Soft strains filled the room.
“This little number is from my first movie.”
As he began singing, I recognized the melody.
“Love me tender . . .”
Elvis gazed at me as he serenaded, his eyes big, brilliantly blue, dreamy. His song sang straight into my heart. I tingled like I’d been caught in a breeze. Could he see my skin quivering? He could definitely see my cheeks reddening.
Elvis finished with a slow downward strum, thumbing each string individually, a sweet arpeggio. He let the last note ring and fade away.
He looked up and smiled.
“Don’t I sound like Bing Crosby?”
He didn’t wait for an answer. He leaned the guitar against the dresser and in the next instant was on the bed, an arm slung around my shoulder. His other hand grasped and turned my chin.
Elvis’ mouth was warm and gentle. Our tongues met. Just as quickly, his retreated.
Our mouths puckered again. Elvis’ lips worked softly against mine. They moved away and began pecking my face with slow, small kisses. My lower lip burned. Elvis had sunk his teeth in with a hard nip.
He released it just as quickly and turned away with a bashful look. It was like he was a nervous teenager. Was this all an act? Or was he just a giant flirt?
 MY REVIEW
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Well, I can't explain how much I enjoyed this book... Chapter One starts with...Elvis!! And I'm such a big fan of him, that I felt a little shocked on how was he portrayed, so human, full of fears and weakness, he was more than just a pretty face with a great voice. And this book is full of this type of characters, very complexes, human and with deep feelings. Our main character, Ingrid, starts like a naive but very smart girl, and is amazing how she grows through the chapters. The plot is fast paced, full of witty dialogues, with intense moments, I almost looked Ingrid's name on Google, because it felt like a memoir, an autobiography. All this is settled in the golden age of Las Vegas, the Author's writing is excellent and you can almost feel like if you were there!!
So, if you're looking for a book with history mixed with intense moments, love, intrigue and the journey of self discovering, Love Target is for you!!
It was quickly getting too dark to see, but I knew the park well. We were heading toward the trail into the forest. I leaned closer to Gabriel so that our shoulders bumped into each other every few steps. Gently, he pressed his palm against my back. “Careful,” he whispered. “The path is uneven here.”
It didn’t take long to fall into a comfortable rhythm with Gabriel’s footsteps. The trees were like deep black sentinels standing against a star-speckled sky. I paid attention to the trail beneath my feet. Each step had to be carefully planted so as to not be caught off guard by the terrain of wood chips and tree roots. Except for the twinkling stars above the branches, the darkness had become so complete that it was easy to imagine our bodies didn’t exist. That only our spirits were floating among and within everything.
Gabriel tenderly took my hand, and the faint silhouette of our joined hands mingled with the dark of the trees, with the sky overhead, the earth below. The ancient pulse of the universe hummed around and through us.
It wasn’t until he pulled me back that I realized we’d come to the edge of the river. A river I’d walked beside countless times before, but never like this.
MOCCASIN TRACE BY HAWK MACKINNEY - VIRUAL TOUR + GIVEAWAY
Moccasin Trace
by Hawk MacKinney
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB

… it was about the land…a tale of love and loss and hope…

“The most engaging and brilliantly crafted historical work since Margaret Mitchell’s great classic.”
Barbara Casey
Author, The Gospel According to Prissy

Hamilton Ingram looked out across the fertile Georgia bottomlands that were Moccasin Hollows, seeing holdings it had taken generations of Ingrams to build.  No drop of slave sweat ever shed in its creation.  It was about the land…his trust, his duty to preserve it for the generation of Ingrams to come…

It is July of 1859, a month of sweltering dog days and feverish emotional bombast.  Life is good for widower Rundell Ingram and his Hazel-eyed, roan-haired son, Hamilton.  Between the two of them, they take care of Moccasin Hollows, their rustic dogtrot ancestral home, a sprawling non-slave plantation in the rolling farming country outside Queensborough Towne in east Georgia.  Adjoining Ingram lands is Wisteria Bend, the vast slave-holding plantation of Andrew and Corinthia Greer, their daughter Sarah, and son Benjamin.

Both families share generations of long-accepted traditions, and childhood playmates are no longer children.  The rangy, even-tempered Norman-Scottish young Hamilton is smitten with Sarah, who has become an enticing capricious beauty—the young lovers more in love with each passing day, and only pleasant times ahead of them.

But a blood tide of war is sweeping across the South, a tide that might be impossible to stand before.

Bessie's head jerked around, "...them gun shots."

A stooped-over Sarah looked up, "What?"

"Gun shots..."  Bessie put down the box of jars and headed toward the cellar door.  "From the direction where the men be.  We gittin' upstairs, an' gittin' now."

Sarah's heart pounded as they came up out of the cellar and looked in the direction of more shots.

"Come on..."  Bessie hurried into the pantry where she reached down the powder horn from the top shelf, then the rifle and pistols. "Git 'em ready with all that shootin'.  Till we know different, we make sure two-legged low-downs don't sneak to the house."

Sarah rushed to the window and murmured, "Hamilton..."  She feared  for him, for their child, for all of them.  "Surely you don't suppose it's Federals?"

"Might be better if'n it is 'stead of what else be skulkin' in them woods.  Stay away from the winder, an' finish rammin' this powder."

Sarah poured the ball and powder firm, rammed it, pulled the rammer out, and whispered, "Bessie listen...birds stopped singing."

"Except that cawin' crow seein' somethin' what don't belong."

Sarah took another quick peek, "There's several horses, but I don't see any riders.  Mules are still hitched.  I don't see anyone at the plow, but there's men on among the trees."

"You watch the front door."  Bessie snugged the pistol in her apron pocket.  "I cover the back.  Anybody tries comin' through the dogtrot door or through the parlor, we back into here, keep 'em from circlin' us."

"What about Papa Rundell?"  Sarah's stomach was queasy.

"He keep his rifle ready.  Anyone bust in his room be dead 'fore they twitch a hair."

With a crash the kitchen door flew open.  Sarah brought her rifle up and fired, the shot splintering door and jamb.  The sound thundered through the house.  Bessie's rifle steadied dead-on.

The silhouetted head and shoulders ducked into a hunch and Hamilton yelled, "Sarah!"  His hand smeared at stinging blood-speckled splinters of wood along his cheek.

THE TRAMP BY SARAH WATHEN - BLOG TOUR & REVIEW + GIVEAWAY

THE TRAMP (THE BOUND CHRONICLES #1)

BY SARAH WATHEN

BLURB
When John was seven, he found Candy dancing in the neighboring yard wearing a yellow polka-dot bikini and red rain galoshes, splashing and dancing and singing at the top of her lungs. She saved his throat from getting ripped out by her grandma’s guard dog. Good thing she did, too. It was John who raised the alarm that day, when the man who smiled with his mouth but not his eyes drove off with Candy in a cloud of dust. The police stopped whatever might have happened next in a seedy motel—a place Candy doesn’t dare remember. John rescued her, creating a bond between two friends strong enough to awaken…something.
That something has haunted the southern mountain town of Shirley since a time before stories were written, in a cycle that has spun for centuries.
Years later, John and Candy begin to suspect something more sinister lurking amidst the days of football glory and the nights of clandestine rendezvous. John discovers disturbing symbols from the ancient tribes indigenous to the area in his history textbook, in a local cave system, and in his very dreams. Candy uncovers a family history that is more colorful than she knew. If shades of black are colorful.
If only the two friends could foresee the danger looming before them. For another something, one much more dangerous than the first, is waking up to continue the cycle.
And this something is bent on revenge…again.
Murder forces everyone out of sunny valley torpor, and Candy realizes that more than acquaintance connects her with the killer. When a corpse is found, gutted as if for ritual, she knows that whatever evil has overtaken her hometown is moving forward. She will have to exorcise the haunting herself—though she has no idea how—and she will need John’s predestined help to do it. Candy will have to face the memories of that seedy motel room first. At least she finally understands the power she never knew she had—a link to her departed mother and a line of healers shrouded in pre-history.

 EXCERPT
Reeking sulfur from the Blue Spring guided Charlotte in the right direction.
“The only time I’ve been thankful for that smell.”
Her voice seemed too loud, the leaves crunching under her shoes as raucous as an alarm, and she slowed her pace, feeling the urge for stealth. A monotonous hum began to register in her ears. The tone flew to a higher pitch, like a wail, and then picked up the hum once again.
Chanting?
Not a bird chirped, not a bug buzzed, not a squirrel scurried. The woods were silent, except for the human voice coming from the direction of the spring. As she got closer to the sound, she sidled up next to the mountainside and slinked along as quietly as she could. The foul smell was overpowering.
She peeked around the side of a boulder, into the little inlet where the spring lay, and gasped at what she saw.
Tyler…
Her cousin was crouched at the edge of the water, naked. Guttural sounds were coming from his throat, his head fallen back at an impossible angle. She wondered if she should help him, but then his head snapped forward revealing a face twisted into a blind snarl, his eyes rolled back into his skull. The noises from his mouth coalesced into the unintelligible chant again.
Charlotte fell back behind the boulder, unable to watch. She tried to slow her breathing, wishing more than anything to remain unnoticed. What the hell is going on?
The sounds by the spring became more frantic and she risked a look. She had to see. At first, she thought Tyler was masturbating, bouncing up and down on his haunches, his hands hidden between his legs. But then he began to retch and a stream of something flowed out of his mouth. Or was it flowing into his mouth? Charlotte felt like she might be sick herself.
She pressed her lips with her fingers and slid back along the face of the overhanging cliff, promising herself not to look again. How fast could she get back to her car? What if Tyler heard her? She couldn’t risk that.
A crackling sound—like something electric—erupted around the bend. There was a flash of blue light from the rocky inlet. Then silence fell so loud it was deafening. As she knelt down in the dirt and tried to regain composure, her mind raced. What was that? After a few minutes, her curiosity overwhelmed her fear. She had to go back and see what was over there at that damned spring.
Charlotte listened, barely daring to breath. Gradually, sounds of normalcy resumed around her. An owl hooted. The crickets began to sing again. The wind picked up and rustled the branches overhead. Heavy boots scuffed through the underbrush and disappeared on the other side of the spring, and she knew Tyler was gone.
She emerged from her hiding spot and edged toward the spring. Had the smell of sulfur vanished, or was she just growing accustomed to it? The night was heavy and dark. She considered going back to the car for her cellphone light; that cold Blue Spring was creepy in the daylight, even on a normal day. But, as she got closer, she saw…there was nothing to see. A bird was drinking from the spring and took flight as she approached. She didn’t know what she expected, but there was only plain old rocks and water in front of her.
Thought the water was murky before. A weird blue. She shrugged. “Looks clear now. Maybe you just can’t see it in the dark.” She leaned over and saw her reflection looking back at her and dipped her finger into the pool to disrupt the mirror. The water wasn’t cold anymore.

MY REVIEW

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Tramp is the kind of book that makes your heart beat fast all through the reading. As soon as I started, I felt fear, I can't explain why, but it was real, it had me on the edge of my seat till the end.

The plot is full of suspense, mystery, some paranormal, twists and turns, and OMG that town!! Creepy. The characters are complex, the writing is excellent and the situations are very well developed. And I can't not say anything about the art cover, isn't beautiful??

I don't like to copy and paste the synopsis, and hate the reviews full of spoilers, I can only say to you, Go! Go, and grab a copy, you'll not regret it.

I watched Angie wobble away and marched myself toward the stonewalling the cops would give me when I felt the soles of my flats slide. Pinwheeling arms didn’t help me get my footing, and with a tiny cry, I went down.

And down, and down, and down.

Snow slid up my shirt, up my pants, and something less cold but more wet. I thrashed around, succeeding only in getting more snow inside my clothes. Not falling, but sinking. I sank into a deep hole. And then I realized it wasn’t a hole but a grave.

Angie came rushing back, as much as she could rush on her stumpy, little legs. “Tess, what the hell happened? I heard you screaming and—oh, my God.”

I expected her to kneel down and help me out of the loose soil and slush, but instead, she whipped out her camera. The little motor whined as she took about six hundred shots. “I think I got the image for my Christmas cards this year.”

“Ange, help me out of here!” I pushed against the soil with one foot, and felt it sink deeper. I tried with the other one. Then I plunged in up to my neck. My arms found no grip, either. It was like quicksand, even though quicksand doesn’t really exist. I knew that. Worse, a horrible, horrible smell drifted up from below. Decomp, rot, death.

Ick.

Amanda snapped on her gear and opened the front door. “That was chance. But this.” She picked up a couple of bags. “This is fate.”

Rachel stopped in the doorway. “Do you really believe that? Do you think it’s possible for two people to be destined for each other? Like soul mates.” She shook her head. “Forget it. Let’s go.”

Amanda blocked the way. “Who did you meet?”

“No one, and I’m late.”

Amanda planted her skates sideways. “You cannot do this. Not after I told you about the real estate broker.”

Rachel looked through the fringe of Amanda’s bangs into her frank green eyes and wondered if she should take a chance. “Let me ask you this. Have you ever heard of dreaming on a piece of wedding cake?”

“Sure, it’s an old custom. Like walking to church because it’s lucky and passing on a green wedding gown because it’s not. But most people serve the cake for dessert these days.”

Rachel tried a smile. “Not all.”

“Someone gave you cake to dream on?” Rachel nodded and it was Amanda’s turn to laugh. “Don’t tell me you did it.”

When Rachel didn’t answer, Amanda’s mouth dropped open and her voice rose. “You did, didn’t you?” She put the bags down. “Okay, I need details. Did you have a dream?”

It was on the tip of Rachel’s tongue to say no, to deny that anything out of the ordinary had occurred. But she found herself nodding and watched Amanda’s eyes grow even rounder.

“Did you see him? The man you’re supposed to marry?”

Rachel took comfort in the fact that her friend had been sucked into the fantasy as easily as she had and nodded a third time.

Amanda stepped closer. “Alright, this next part is really important. Where exactly did they get this cake?”
