RESTHAVEN BY ERIK THERME - BLURB BLITZ & REVIEW + GIVEAWAY

Resthaven
by Erik Therme

GENRE: YA suspense

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB
The last thing Kaylee wants to do is participate in a childish scavenger hunt—especially inside the abandoned retirement home on the edge of town. When she finds a bruised, deaf boy hiding inside one of the rooms, she vows to lead him to safety . . . only to discover the front doors are now padlocked, and her friends are nowhere to be found. Kaylee is about to learn that not everything that goes ‘bump in the night’ is imaginary, and sometimes there are worse things to fear than ghosts.
EXCERPT
The dog was taller than our knees and its skin clung to its ribs, as if it hadn’t eaten in days. A half-chewed leash hung from its collar, and its ears and muzzle were pulled back. There was no question we were unwelcome guests.
“Kaylee?” Anna said.
The dog began to growl. We both took a step back.
“Do we run?” Anna rasped.
“Are you crazy?” I whispered fiercely. “We can’t outrun a dog.”
“What do we do?”
A sound rose and died in my throat. All I could see was the dog’s teeth. Last year I had been bitten by a stray in our neighborhood, and I still had the ankle scar to prove it.
The dog let out a wracking bark, startling us both back another step. My eyes skipped to Anna, then to the open doors on each side of us.
“We can hide inside the rooms,” I said, speaking low and fast. “When I count to three, run into the room beside you and slam the door.”
Anna’s grip on my wrist tightened. “I can’t—”
“You can,” I hissed. “If both of us go for opposite rooms, the dog won’t know which one to follow. That will confuse it and give us another second of time.”
“Another second?”
“Just get inside the room,” I said.
The dog lowered its head, shifting its muddy eyes from Anna to me. It knew who the threat was.
“One,” I whispered.
“Don’t make me do this,” Anna said.
My stomach knotted. “Two . . .”
The dog burst forward in a shambling run.
She killed the ignition, slipped the satchel’s strap over her head, and shouldered the door open. Outside, the cool morning breeze played in her hair.
The airship was a great hulking beast of a thing. The body reminded her of a bowhead whale. In the back, twin vertical steering fins were probably six stories tall at least. The gondola boasted three, four, maybe even five levels—she couldn’t quite tell from this distance—and was snuggly attached to the belly of the plump, stretching bladder filled with helium gas. Four massive propellers stabbed out from the gondola’s front and rear and could be swiveled horizontally or vertically for additional lift or propulsion. They were angled toward the earth at the moment, already spinning in preparation for takeoff.
His motorcycle still revving, Knox’s muttered thickly. “I supposed you think you’re clever leaving me behind like that.”
“Clearly not clever enough,” she replied airily. “You’re here, aren’t you?”
“You owe that poor attendant back there an apology. I had to steal his only transport.” He patted the handlebars.
“Then it sounds like you owe him an apology.” She’d expected to see people lined up on the platform, or crew readying the ship. There were none. She supposed the passengers were all aboard. The loading doors were closed…the propellers spinning? Wait, was it already off the ground? “Oh, no! Are they taking off without us?!”
UNSTOPPABLE BY LYNN CRANDALL - REVIEW TOUR + GIVEAWAY
Unstoppable
by Lynn Crandall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Paranormal romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Reeling from Project Powering, the recent battle between the evil Nexus Group and her colony of were-cats, were-lynx Lara Monroe is struggling with not only thwarting the group’s plans to take over the world and eliminate her colony, but also her own traumatic past and aching heart. Through her work as a veterinarian equipped with a special healing touch, she can help animals. Animals she can trust not to tear open her heart. As the colony’s unofficial go-to for help with emotional issues, Lara is eager to use her healing touch to help colony cat Booker Chase process grief and his PTSD. But as the focus of her unrequited love, Booker unknowingly beckons her to ask for more than friendship.
A formidable were-lynx and a physician, Booker nonetheless has his hands full helping patients who were seriously injured in Project Powering. Though his healing touch is powerful in healing physical injuries in his patients, it’s useless to help him heal from the loss of his wife or the retriggered PTSD he incurred while serving in Afghanistan. Now that his good friend Lara is standing by him in his emotional struggles, he is finding there is more to his connection with her than he realized. But dare he open his heart to her?
In the epic conclusion of the Fierce Hearts series, while the colony faces constant threats in attempting to end TNG, will Lara and Booker survive to take their second chance at love?
EXCERPT
Lara held her breath, sinking into the delicate touch of Booker’s lips on hers. Her pulse thrummed loudly in her head. Her eyes closed. Booker’s scent, fresh, like early morning rain, prompted thoughts of his naked skin.
His kiss pressed hard to her mouth and without thought, her lips separated. His tongue darted inside and coaxed hers into assent.
He pulled her close, holding her tight against his muscled chest. It was over for her.
She placed her hands on either side of his head, savoring the texture of his dark hair, and kissed him hard. And long. This was what she wanted, had wanted for so long. She let loose the yearning she’d buried deep when he’d turned to Shaun and made her his lover, his wife. Her body didn’t pull back from his touch the way it had resisted touch since her childhood. She shoved all that down, refusing to let thoughts of the past darken this minute. She didn’t want any thoughts, only feelings and sensations of being with Booker right now, in the moment. This moment. The one she’d never believed could happen. And now, the moment was alive for her, sending her pulse racing to the beat of bliss.
MY REVIEW
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I absolutely love books with a strong female and a broken hero and "Unstoppable" have both!
With an original premise and a complex paranormal world, full of action, suspense and romance the story engulfed me since page one. The characters are developed, full of layers and extremely likeable, I enjoyed the personal growing of Lara and Brooker and their love story *sighs*
I read that this is the final book of a series, but it doesn't felt like if I missed something, it's excellent written, with great dialogues and heartfelt moments.
Highly Recommended!!
P.S. Oh, my! That book cover!!! *double sighs*
EXCERPT
7:51 a.m.
My alarm went off at the same time it always did. It prattled out its god awful incessant whine like it’s prone to doing as if I actually cared about its existence. I reached a hand out from under the blanket and slapped the snooze button with a little more gusto than I probably should have. Maybe it’s just me, but putting a little extra mustard on that snooze button in the morning gives me a feeling of satisfaction, like it’ll think twice about bothering me again if I just smack it hard enough.
I rolled over and went back to sleep.
8:00 a.m.
The alarm blared back into life. Who decided nine minutes was the standard amount of time for the snooze feature on an alarm clock? Was there some kind of study done at some point that found that people only needed nine minutes of extra sleep at a time? Personally I would think fifteen or twenty minutes would be more appropriate. Again, maybe it’s just me. I pushed the blanket back and lurched onto my feet. The room was spinning ever so slightly. That had to do a little with standing up too fast, and a lot to do with being hung over. I clicked the snooze button on the alarm with the big toe on my right foot. Everything in my room was on the floor. I didn’t own a traditional bed. It was just a futon mattress lying on the floor, so everything had to be at ground level so I could easily reach it. I was trying to adopt a Japanese style of living.
All right, fine. I just couldn’t afford real furniture. Are you happy now that you got me to admit that?
MY REVIEW
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
*3.5 Stars*
With this book I found myself in a crossroad.
Apocalypse Wow is hilarious, with funny situations, witty dialogues, smart references, an awesome soundtrack and an original plot, but somehow, all that became fuzzy towards the end, I lost the storyline several times and it was a bit rushed.
Overall, I laughed at loud, really enjoyed the 90's references and our main characters were delightful!!
This book is the perfect read for a boring day, it will cheer up your day!
P.S. You must listen to the songs of each chapter while you're reading.
