“See?” the manager told Mara. “He wishes you no harm.”

“We’ll see how that goes when he’s murdering us in our sleep,” she said.

“I promise to clean up after I’m done,” I said.

The manager gave me a “Was that really necessary?” look while someone behind me made no effort to conceal his or her snigger. Apparently my time of helping was over.

Me: Do you think any kind of afterlife exists?

Steve: No idea. It would be nice to think there’s something after us, but I’m not religious and tend to believe in things that can be proved. And no one has ever proved that it happens.

Me: Would you kill an innocent person if you thought it might mean saving a dozen other people?

Steve: I’d like to be able to say no, not a chance. But I don’t know. Put someone in the right set of circumstances and people are capable of an awful lot they never thought they could do.

Me: What’s the most money you've ever given away?

Steve: In one go? A hundred quid I’d imagine. It was probably to a cancer charity, a lot of members of my family have had lung and throat cancer (hence one of the reasons I never smoked). 

Me: What’s the biggest personal change you've ever made?

Steve: Having children changes everything about your life. It changes your outlook on your future, it makes you realize that you are now responsible for another person, and it makes you want to be a better person. 

The birth of my first daughter was ten years ago, and it made me want to get serious about writing. That was probably the single biggest change.

Me: What’s the stupidest thing you've ever done?

Steve: Not a clue, there’s been a lot of stupid stuff when I was younger. Alcohol was probably involved, or trying to impress a girl. Possibly both, depending on how old I was.

Prison of Hope by Steve McHugh

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just find out that Prison of Hope is the fourth book in the Hellequin Chronicles!! So, I'll have to get the first ones, because this is a fantastic story!
I must thank the Author for the Characters list, it was really useful, I'm not very good remembering all the names, and the story is so full of amazing characters!
The plot is a page turner type, full of twists and turns, with great action scenes, witty dialogues and some romance. I'm amazed how the Author was able of bringing two worlds together in such a wonderful way, the writing is impeccable, the words flow and the plot develops on a fast pace that keeps you really entertained from beginning to the end, is not an easy read but a highly enjoyable one!

AUTHOR Bio and Links

Steve’s been writing from an early age, his first completed story was done in an English lesson. Unfortunately, after the teacher read it, he had to have a chat with the head of the year about the violent content and bad language. The follow up ‘One boy and his frog’ was less concerning to his teachers and got him an A.

It wasn’t for another decade that he would start work on a full-length novel that was publishable, the results of which was the action-packed Urban Fantasy, Crimes Against Magic.

Steve McHugh lives in Southampton on the south coast of England with his wife and three young daughters. When not writing or spending time with his kids, he enjoys watching movies, reading books and comics, and playing video games.
